There are literally millions of books published each year. Most books are self-published, but at least half a million books are published through traditional channels.
Still there are uncountable numbers of people who yearn to one day publish a book. Leaving aside self-published books (because anyone can do a self-published book and sell it themselves; the real problem here is distribution) the path through traditional publishing is blocked by one group of people: gatekeepers.
