One thing about living in the South is that the seasons don't go according to plan. Although it's still spring, we've already reached average daily temperatures of 90° here in southeast Louisiana. This got me to thinking about how it's more important to be flexible and ready for whatever comes next.

Years ago, when I was just getting started as a writer, I gave myself a special task: I would respond to a writing prompt every day for as long as I felt like it. Looking back, I thought I had done this for maybe a month, but I found the old document with my stories in it. As it turns out, I had 154 pages of mostly one-page stories in the document. This is not to say that you need to take on a huge task to inspire yourself. However, I do think it's necessary to set forth challenges from time to time. To that end, I'm offering a writing prompt for your use. I hope this helps. Let me know what you think.

Take the prompt below. Set aside some time to work on it. Write one page story with a beginning, middle, and end. You don’t need to love it, but you should finish.

[Housekeeping: thank you to new patrons Lois, Lauren, and Steve. You’re highly appreciated!]
