Oh "Theodore" I have tears in my eyes reading your words. I was just writing a letter to my grandchildren last night about stories, wondering if they love them, telling them I wish I knew more family stories. As you say, "There are few things more damaging to us than feeling isolated, cut off." My daughter has cut me off and it is the most painful experience of my life.

I'm sorry for the isolation between you and your loved ones, and I hope that your situation improves in the future. I believe your grandchildren know that you love them dearly.

My mom & I "traded" cutting each other off -- first initially her of me, then me of her, then . . . Well, the last break was a thirteen year period & finally I & she broke through it, though not perfectly, we were never as close as when I was a child. Time, space & holding goodness in your heart; trusting hope; daring to "release" her with all your love. My mom's gone now & I love her still.

I can't imagine how hard those years apart must have been. I'm glad that y'all had some kind reconciliation. And I'm sorry you couldn't regain that earlier closeness.
