Lovely read. Interestingly, I recently wrote a post about how much I missed going to see art, especially ones that come from artists that don’t look like me, because the art charts their ideas of the world and its culture, wherever they are, and it’s important to know things outside of myself. What is the world doing? What are they THINKING? Seeing? Feeling? In that, it broadens my possibility of self expression and observation. And I really enjoy how, when we let ourselves be led, we can lead each other to beautiful places.

Thank you for this post ❤️

“The creative mind requires, perhaps more than anything, the World. We must know the World to depict the world. We must know ourselves.” 💞💞 Also, Senegal!!! So happy for you

I am in love with this piece! The part about travelling and growing synonymously speaks volumes to me. I just traveled to china and it feels likes there’s so much in me that’s shifted and changed and it’s quite tricky putting it all into words even though I’m so sure these changes will manifest with time gradually. Soaking up different perspectives and ideas is such a human thing to do and I think we sometimes overlook it. 😂 also loving the collection of degrees! Jaiyou!

Thank you for these words. The timing couldn't be better. Last week I became a grandmother and in September I am traveling alone to attend a writing retreat in the South of France. I am over the moon and terrified at the same time! Dreams come true! Like you, I am excited to see what these adventures have in store for me, to see what I am meant to make of them. As always, your words resonate.

Regina, you'll do great. Plenty of nice people over there. Learn your basic French phrases but know many speak English.

Wonderful piece, Robert. It made me think of the journal Transition which comes out of Harvard's Hutchins Center. It's a magazine of African and the Diaspora. Do you know it? I'm sure they'd love to have a piece by you. I have a novel excerpt coming out in the next issue #134. I enjoyed working with the editors very much.

Hi, Maurice. Sorry about that.

Glad to hear it. I'd love to see more Black folks in the African/African Diaspora mags like Transition, Lolwe, Brittle Paper.
